The Program: Master's and Doctoral Degrees

The Master's

The Master's Course in the Graduate Program of the School of Nursing (PPGE) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais was founded in 1994 and was restructured in 2004. Today it offers a major in Health and Nursing, and four fields of research: 'Health and nursing care', 'Health and nursing education', 'Health Promotion, Prevention and control of health risks,' and 'Organization and management of health and nursing services'.

The course aims at offering students consistent and high quality education. The objectives include: to better qualify professionals for the purposes of teaching, research and healthcare; to train faculty to prepare professionals in health and nursing in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as in further studies; to prepare researchers who will broaden the professional, technical, cientific and philosophical bases in the social production of health; to develop skills to conduct original and independent research in nursing and other health areas; to contribute to the improvement of knowledge in health and nursing by making use of advanced methods that are capable of sustaining a transforming social practice, of improving the production, dissemination and use of scientific knowledge in nursing and other areas of health; to train nurses and other health professionals to work with research, practice and education in a transdiciplinary and interdisciplinary manner, and to contribute to exchanges that will develop integrated, interdisciplinary and interinstitutional projects of national and international scope.

The Doctorate

The Doctoral Course in the Graduate Program of the School of Nursing (PPGE) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais was authorized by CAPES em 2004 and opened in 2005. The degree awarded is 'Doutor em Enfermagem' (Ph.D. in Nursing). The program has four fields of research: 'Health and nursing care', 'Health and nursing education', 'Health promotion, prevention and control of health risks' and 'Organization and management of health and nursing services'. The curriculum includes three mandatory courses and optional courses in the program's different fields of research.

The course aims at offering students consistent and high quality education.
